Nikon D90 or Nikon D5000?

30 July 2009

An enthusiast photographer has a hard time choosing the right camera, the excellent Nikon D90 of the new Nikon D5000? The former has already wowed many photographers with its superb features. But many claim the D5000 would be much better.

Here is the predicament of the troubled photographer: Would you buy the D() right now or wait until the first week of May for the D5000? The following online reviews may help you with your dilemma.

Clouised: The D90 is definitely the better camera. It is worth grabbing before it pushes the price up. Do not tell me you are not warned: the price of the D90 goes up real fast.

hockey_magnet: If the D5000 stays at the $799 price, I think the D90 features are worth paying the extra $ for. Additionally, the D90 has the sub command dial feature, which is very important particularly when you shoot manually.

Mark Stein: It appears that the D5000 is an entry-level camera; the D90, on the other hand, is suited for more serious enthusiast photographers. The D5000 is only a couple of hundred bucks cheaper than a D90. Considering the price and specs, the D90 is a better camera for a bit more dollars.

Skaterboy: The D90 screen alone is definitely a major plus (3-inch 920 high-definition video). ‘Nuff said.

Happypopeye: The Nikon D5000 is a new camera, so everyone is all hyped up about it. If you need to buy a DSLR now, I suggest you get the Nikon D90. But if you do not have to buy one now, be patient, wait for its availability, read reviews, check any problem, and decide wisely a few weeks or a month after the camera is released in the market.

Jimmyinnewyork: I bought my D90 two months ago. Reading the D5000 features, I am happy I bought the D90. I love the hi-res LCD, commander mode, built-in focus motor, etc.
